Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry dedicated to restoring and maintaining the proper alignment of the teeth and jaws. In some cases, teeth grow in crooked or crowded positions in the mouth. Other patients have misaligned jaws, referred to as underbites, overbites, crossbites or openbites. An orthodontist specialises in assisting to correct these problems through teeth straightening treatment.

For some patients, these issues are purely aesthetic. Many people with misaligned teeth feel self-conscious and often avoid social and professional situations where their smile may impact on their confidence. For others, orthodontic issues can impact on their bite, chewing and even their speech.

Orthodontists recommend that children seek any necessary orthodontic treatment as soon as all their adult teeth have fully erupted, which usually occurs somewhere between the ages of 10 and 13. Early intervention can potentially prevent the extraction of overcrowded teeth.

Teeth Straightening is also extremely popular with adults. There are several teeth straightening options available. Treatment times vary depending on the initial severity of the problem and the desired results.
