Traditional fixed braces are comprised of metal brackets bonded to the front surface of the teeth with a special adhesive. These brackets are connected with a wire, which your orthodontist will adjust every few weeks to exert gentle pressure on the teeth over time, moving them into a straighter position.
Traditional metal braces can be customised with a range of coloured elastic bands which attach the wire to the bracket. Children and teenagers typically choose these elastics in their school colours or favourite sports team as a fun accessory.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of your case and typically takes approximately 18-24 months. Patients must wear a retainer after completing their treatment to keep their teeth in their proper position.
